GOBLIN FEAST --- back

Having worked with these scores and kids for many years I have found it helpful to introduce each piece in certain ways that help to understand the background of the music and its setting as well as inspire the imagination and enthusiasm of the kids. On this page are some suggestions that you may find helpful starting points. The pictures below can help to set the mood of this piece. - Keith Sharp
About the TOLKIEN MINIATURES:
"All that the unsuspecting Bilbo saw that morning was an old man with a staff. He has a tall pointed blue hat, a long grey cloak, a silver scarf over which his long white beard hung down below his waist, and immense black boots. "Gandalf!" "Tales and adventures sprouted up all over the place wherever he went, in the most extraordinary fashion."
- extracts from The Hobbit by J.R.R.Tolkien
About GOBLIN FEAST
"...he could see the goblins dancing round and round in a circle like people round a midsummer bonfire.
He could hear the goblins beginning a horrible song..."
- extracts from The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
Energetic and growling music that tells a subterranean story. Just what are those Goblins planning to cook in their pot? Careful don't creep too close!
Written for primary school players and caters for a mixed standard. The Violin 3 part is easy and has the tune most of the way through. An optional extension part is provided for those young 'hotshot' violinists wanting to try out their 3rd position skill. This line is also doubled in the piano.
Make sure you use the Tambourine and Roto-toms. Great fun!
The music can be played at a variety of speeds. If you really want to "rev the ensemble engine", spiccato stokes become a must. Wild and woolly!
Useful points to remember:
· Playing range between 3rd year and 5th year of learning.
· Evenly written for all parts.
· Optional percussion parts.

Your suggestions are important and welcome!
