| About Bushwhacker Stomp |
|
 BUSHWHACKER STOMP is based upon a simple fiddle-style tune in D major, the main feature of which is a chromatic first finger slide. The theme is initially presented in two parts and develops into four as the piece progresses. All instrumentalists except the bass have the opportunity to play the tune. A descant line provides further challenge to violinists. A huge favourite!!! What is a Bushwhacker? From Webster's 1913 Dictionary Definition: \Bush"whack`er\, n. 1. One accustomed to beat about, or travel through, bushes. [U.S.] They were gallant bushwhackers, and hunters of raccoons by moonlight. --W. Irving. 2. A guerrilla; a marauding assassin; one who pretends to be a peaceful citizen, but secretly harasses a hostile force or its sympathizers. [U.S.] --Farrow. |

| Useful points to remember: |

| · Playing range between 2nd year and 5th year of learning. · All sections except bass have main theme. 1sts, 2nds and Celli have 2nd theme. · 1sts and 2nds take turns in playing the descant. · Able Bass players may enjoy rehearsing the cello part. · Introduces chromatic D sharp to E movement on the D string. · Excellent study for middle to upper-half use of the bow. |
